Belgium
Belgium is situated at the heart of Western Europe and counts more or less 10 million inhabitants. The capital of Belgium is Brussels.
The total surface of Belgium amounts to 30.528 km2. Although Belgium is a rather small country, it has a lot of beautiful cities and wonderful green nature.
In Belgium the main languages are French and Dutch, besides English, Spanish and German that are also common languages.The neighbor countries of Belgium are the Netherlands, Germany, Grand-Duchy-of-Luxembourg and France. In the east the borderline is the North Sea.
The currency is the euro as in the other EU member States. Belgium has a moderated climate characterized by cool and humid summers and rather mild and rainy winters.
Conditions
You are between 18 and 26 years old and you have:
- attended school until at least the age of 17,
- at least a good knowledge of English, French, Dutch or German,
- some experience in childcare,
- a good health to be able to take care of children, and
- you adore children and you will give them the best of you.
A good sense of responsibility and a sound attitude are of course important characteristics for an au pair to make the integration in the host family successful.
How do I become an au pair?
We will ask you to complete some application forms so we can present you in an efficient way to candidate host families looking for a qualified au pair.
Then we will start looking for a host family where you will be able to feel at home. When we think we have found the perfect match, you will be able to contact the host family and you will ultimately decide if you wish to become an au pair for this host family
Furthermore we will assist you to collect all required documents to be able to become legally an au pair in Belgium.
Tasks of an au pair
The au pair will in the first place look after the children. The host family may ask the au pair to take care of the following tasks:
- Bring and fetch the children to and from school (or the kindergarten),
- Wash, dress and nurse the children,
- Do some babysitting,
- Help to tidy up the toys and clothes of the children,
- Make the beds of the children,
- Dress and clean the table,
- Tidy up the kitchen after mealtime,
- Do some daily shopping.
Also other small daily housekeeping duties may be asked from the au pair.These duties can never exceed more than 4 hours per day and 20 hours per week.
Furthermore the au pair is entitled to have at least 1 day off per week, 1 complete weekend per month and 1 week per 6 months stay.
